August 06, 2026

Sometimes, the best stories are the ones that were never part of the original plan. On August 6, 2026, the Rotary E-Club of All Star CAMANAVA (ReCASC) was set to conduct an outreach activity at a daycare center. But when classes were suspended due to inclement weather, the dayโ€™s original plan had to change. The sandwiches for the children had already been purchased and prepared. Some of the club members had already taken a leave of absence from their work. Instead of letting the unexpected turn of events end the dayโ€™s service, ReCASC found another way to share what had already been prepared.

What started as a side quest became the main event. Led by High Impact President Dominic Benedict Santos-Viola Faustino, the club proceeded with Project RENEW LIFE, bringing hygiene kits and food to 148 Persons Deprived of Liberty at the Malabon City Jail Female Dormitory. The sandwiches originally intended for the daycare children were distributed to the PDLs, while packed meals and dental kits were also provided through the generosity of sponsors. Among them were: the Philippine Dental Association Malabon-Navotas Chapter led by its Chapter President, Dr. Weeden F. Fofue and the Philippine Malabon Cultural Institute, Inc.

But Project RENEW LIFE was about more than what was handed out. It was about showing that even behind walls, people deserve to be remembered, cared for, and reminded that they still have hope. The project itself began unexpectedly. A casual meeting between then Good President Maria Cristina C. Chua and Jail Senior Inspector and Acting City Jail Warden Nelia Gomez-Macaraeg opened the door to a new avenue of service. Following their meeting, Officer Macaraeg, through JO2 Eddie Louie M. Traqueรฑa, sent a letter to the club requesting a donation of tarpaulins for the facility.

ReCASC responded to the request and provided tarpaulins to help protect the dormitory from the harsh effects of the rainy season. The outreach was made even more meaningful by the presence of Malabon City Vice Mayor Hon. Edward C. Nolasco, who shared an encouraging message with the PDLs. He reminded them that their present circumstances do not define who they are and that hope is never lost. As they continue to work toward becoming better versions of themselves, he encouraged them to remember that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

For ReCASC, this is where the heart of Project RENEW LIFE lies. The project reflects Rotaryโ€™s commitment to Promoting Peace by building bridges with communities that are often unseen, affirming human dignity, and creating spaces where hope and rehabilitation can take root. Sometimes, peace begins with something as simple as being reminded that someone cares. What began as a postponed outreach for children became a meaningful day of connection and service for another community.

And perhaps that is what service is sometimes about. Plans may change. Circumstances may shift. But when the intention to serve remains, there is always another way forward.

Project RENEW LIFE ended with more than an afternoon of giving. It ended with a promise of continued service to the Malabon City Jail Female Dormitory. Because when there is a need, there is always another way to shine, serve and create lasting impact. Together, we shine. Together, we create lasting impact. โœจโœจโœจ๐™’๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ข๐™–๐™ ๐™š ๐™– ๐™™๐™ž๐™›๐™›๐™š๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š ๐™ž๐™ฃ ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™ข๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฎ?LIKE and FOLLOW our page to stay connected with our journey and discover how Rotary transforms ideas into action, empowering communities and inspiring positive change.
